What is the function of the eyelashes?The function of the eyelashes is to protect the eyes from foreign objects, produce sebum (a lubricant in the eyelids), and protect the eyes from tears.

What is the location and function of the Meibomian glands?Location- Meibomian glands are located in the eyelids. Function- They secrete the oily layer of the tear film, which prevents tears from rapidly evaporating. Meibomian glands can stop secreting oils because of chronic blockage, thickening of the meibum, etc.

What is a sty? What causes a sty?A sty is small, painful lump on the inside or outside of the eyelid. They are usually caused by a staphylococcus bacterial eye infection.

What is the location and function of the conjunctiva? What is conjunctivitis?The conjunctiva is a thin, transparent tissue that covers the outer surface of the eye. It begins at the outer edge of the cornea, covers the visible part of the sclera and lines the inside of the eyelids. It also secretes oils and mucous that moisten and lubricate the eye. Conjunctivitis, also known as pink eye, is redness and swelling of the conjunctiva.
